The Church of Saint Denis Religious Education Student Program Information

Archdiocesan Guidelines & Curriculum: The St. Denis Religious Education Program is based on the Archdiocesan Guidelines. It requires parental involvement in compliance with Canon Law, Baptismal Vows and Diocesan recommendations.

Sunday Mass Attendance: The Catholic faith is taught, expressed and fulfilled in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The Mass is the core of our faith. Religious education is incomplete without weekly attendance at Mass, and is totally undermined in its lasting value. Please make a concerted effort to attend Sunday Mass each week.

Attitude: Christian education should be a positive learning experience. We expect our staff to share their enthusiasm for the faith both by word and example. Children should come to our program with eagerness and a positive attitude to learn. Parental support and involvement will assist in the program's efforts to attain this goal. Parents should notify the office immediately if they have a concern regarding their child or the program.

Classroom Behavior: Students should behave in a Christian manner, if not, they will be reported to the office and parents will be notified. The third offense is grounds for expulsion. To lessen classroom distractions, we request that no hats be worn in the building, no gum chewing, and students must bring their textbooks to class. All school property must be respected. If damage occurs, students found responsible will bear the replacement cost.

Class Attendance: Students are expected to attend ALL scheduled classes. When a student is absent, the parent or guardian must provide a written note to the Catechist with the date and reason for the absence. The parent and student must make up all missed work. If excessive absences occur, the Catechist will contact the parent. Three absences are allowed. Should additional absences occur the Director will determine if the grade is to be repeated. Students are expected to be on time for the class. If early dismissal is unavoidable, parents should report to the office to sign out their child and wait for him/her in the office area.

Progress Reports: These are distributed in January and on the last day of class. If your child does not receive one, please notify the office.

Homework: Homework assignments will be determined by the individual classroom teacher. Parents are to contact their child's teacher if any questions arise regarding assignments. Parents should always question and review what each child has done on a weekly basis. Each year has a minimum amount of vocabulary and information requirements.

Tuition Tuition : Tuition fees cover only part of the program's cost. Sacramental grades will incur additional fees; robes and retreats.

SpeciaI Education: The office will make every attempt to meet the special needs of each student. Please assist us in this effort by informing us of your child's special needs as soon as possible so we may make the necessary provisions.

Safety: To insure the safety of the children, it is imperative that parents follows these directions: enter and park only in designated spaces; wait with your child until the Catechist arrives for class; do not enter or wander the hallways during class time; wait in the main lobby for the dismissal bell; meet your child at his/her classroom. Please use caution as you leave the building and the parking lot. It is essential that students not be dropped off more than ten minutes before and picked up not later than ten minutes after scheduled class time. The parish cannot guarantee supervision beyond these times. Any child who is not picked up at the classroom by 5:45 or 10:15 or 12:30 will be brought to the Religious Education Office in the school. Fire drills and emergency drills are scheduled during class time. Please insist that your child take all drills seriously and act appropriately. Update emergency contacts and change of phone number in the main office.

Tuition: Religious Education tuition will be the following:
Envelope Users: $110 for 1 child, $140 for 2 children, $160 for 3 or more children

Non-Envelope User: $200 for 1 child, $160 each additional child.

There is an additional Bridge tuition for any Confirmation student planning to complete the Confirmation program in 1 year.

Sacramental Program: Parent meetings are held for each sacrament. Parents must attend. Please check for the dates listed on the Religious Education calendar distributed to your child each month.

First Penance and First Communion: Are usually administered in the 2nd grade. Those students who have not received their Sacraments will meet with the Director to make plans for the reception of the sacraments.

Confirmation: Is celebrated in the spring of 7th or 8th grade. The Confirmande must complete ten (10) hours of "Christian Service," attend a parish sponsored retreat, and achieve a level of spiritual maturity necessary to ensure a personal commitment to Christ.

Registration Information: Registration will be held in March. Please check your monthly calendars. If you are a new registration, you must provide us with a copy of the child's Baptismal certificate and be a registered parishioner at St. Denis.
