August Schedule

To all Saint Denis Church Ministers of the Altar,
Through the Sacrament of Initiation, the Holy Spirit has bestowed on us gifts that are intended to enhance the life of the Church and the lives of our brothers and sisters. As a member of our parish community, you accepted the invitation to share your gifts and talents in at least one of our ministries in the Holy Sacrifice that is the Mass. Every weekend we need 15 Altar Servers, 18 Eucharistic Ministers, 20 Greeters, and 5 Lectors to serve the 5 masses. We are very blessed at this time to have 220 volunteers.
Over the years we have tried to help make the scheduling more flexible to meet your needs but at the same time we must fulfill the needs of the parish you have chosen to serve. You no doubt are aware that others have chosen to limit their service causing some ministers to serve more than others. Some are not even showing up at all when scheduled then having someone not scheduled to come forward at mass and take their place.
We have also noticed that the monthly tear off sheets have increased over time and still submitted way past their due date. This makes it very hard to finalize and complete the schedule in a timely fashion. Therefore we are asking all Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and Greeters to do the following.
Everyone must choose 3 mass preferences, then please submit the 3 preferences by either the e-mail unavailability sheet or the hard copy sheet attached to the printed schedule along with any changes to your address and phone number. We will re-enter those 3 preferences into the scheduling software when everyone has responded. We will make every effort to accommodate your first preference when creating the schedule but at times you will be asked to serve your 2nd and your 3rd mass preference where needed. You may at times be split up from your family to fill open ministry positions where needed. Starting with the September 2011 schedule, all unavailability sheets must be submitted by the end of second week of the month. No sheets will be accepted past that deadline via the internet or hard copy. Should you be scheduled on a day you are not available because of a late submittal or unexpected event it is your responsibility to find someone to cover your position for that date via the website contact list or a hard copy list located in the sacristy. DO NOT leave your ministry open. Doing so will insure all positions on the schedule are filled every month and all who serve will be serving equally as possible. The schedule will then be completed by the third week of the month or earlier if possible.
Please remember to make sure you are at mass 15 minutes before it begins and go to the sacristy to sign in. This way the clergy know you are there and ready to serve.

If you feel you cannot meet the above requirements of serving in the ministry of your choice, then maybe you should reconsider your service at this time. If and when you're special needs change you could return to that ministry when you can devout the full attention it deserves.
