HEARTS AND HANDS OUTREACH

Do you have some time on your hands? Will you open your hearts to fellow parishioners who need occasional assistance? Our ministry is coming up on its 15th anniversary and many of the volunteers have been with us since the beginning. We are so fortunate to have had so many wonderful, caring people over the years. However, 15 years is a long time and several of our volunteers have moved on to other ministries or out of the area, aged out, gotten sick or died. During this same time our community members have also aged and more are in need of some assistance.Transportation is a great need in our parish. Please consider volunteering if you have a little time to spare. You will meet so many wonderful people and in return you will get more than you give! Shared love keeps on giving! See Jesus in your neighbor in need!
Call and let me explain how and what the H&H ministry volunteers do and what you can expect. I don't bite; I'm not pushy; and you are always free to say "not this time". Dianne O'Connor, Coordinator, 221-2930

A WORD FROM THE DEACON

There is a special request for any old V.H.S. tapes you might have that are inspirational, or any National Geographic films you might be disposing of. These tapes would be another very special gift from our parish for the men in prison. You may drop any V.H.S. tapes in the Deacon's office at the Rectory.
God Bless you all, Deacon Enrico

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

We would like to begin a comfort shawl ministry at St. Denis Church. If you have a love of knitting or crocheting, or would like to learn, we invite you to join us twice a month as we knit or crochet our prayers and blessings into shawls which will be distributed to those in our parish in need of comfort or . You do not have to be present at the meetings to participate in this ministry. After completing the prayer shawls, they will be blessed by Father Steve and be delivered to our brothers and sisters so they may feel the warmth, love, support and prayers of their parish family. If you cannot knit or crochet, but would like to donate yarn, we would truly appreciate it. Our first meeting will be on Sept. 16th in the lower basement of the church at 7pm. If you can attend or would like additional information, please call Annette at 221-8256 or Joann at 221-4252.

DOMESTIC CHURCH

The Sacred Heart Apostolate at St Denis can enthrone the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary images into your home. Your home can become another home at St. Denis parish that becomes a Domestic Church and a place to gather the family for daily prayers.
If you would like to have more information or make an appointment to Enthrone the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary image into your home please contact Deacon Enrico at the rectory 227-8382.

LAZARUS MINISTRY

The Lazarus Ministry is a group of volunteers who attend funeral masses at St. Denis when there are few mourners in attendance. Calls are put out as needed to notify everyone and those who are available participate in the mass. It is a beautiful way for us as a community of God to support the families and pray for the deceased. Susan Messina has agreed to take over this ministry. Anyone who wishes to be included or has questions can speak to Deacon Enrico at the rectory 227-8382 or call Dianne 221-2930.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

RCIA RCIA Graham Greene was one of the greatest novelists of the 20th Century. In 1925, while engaged to his future wife Vivien, a Catholic, he wrote: "It occurred to me that if I were to marry a Catholic I ought to know at the least the nature and limits of the beliefs she held. It was only fair, since she knew that I believed - "in nothing supernatural". So, motivated only by curiosity and a desire to please his future wife, he began to take instruction in the Catholic faith - with absolutely no intention of converting. As he put it, "My primary difficulty was to believe in God at all…I didn't disbelieve in Jesus Christ - I disbelieved in God." In February, 1926, his atheism overpowered and removed, Graham became a Catholic. Greene gave God a chance, he let God deal with his disbelief. Those of you who are non-Catholics; those of you who were baptized Catholics but have not received Confirmation and the Eucharist - perhaps you have doubts, fears, and disbelief. Give God a chance! Our RCIA program begins in September.
  • Are there men and women you know who are non-Christians, or non-Catholic, or non-baptized Catholics - who want to join our church and receive the Sacraments? Give us their names.
  • Are there men and women you know who are baptized in another Christian faith, like a Methodist or a Lutheran, and they want to come join our family? Give us their names.
  • Are there Catholic men and women who have not received their Communion or Confirmation? Give us their names.
  • Are you planning to be married in the Church, but have not finished your Sacraments of Initiation? Give us your names
  • Are you in any of the above categories? Please allow us to welcome you, and assist you in making the greatest decision of your life - becoming a Roman Catholic. Give us your names Please contact Sue Ellen DeForest, RCIA Coordinator, suedefor@aol.com (845) 489-2624
