YEAR FOR PRIESTS JUNE 2009-JUNE 2010

Our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has declared June 2009 to June 2010 as Year for Priests. This Year for Priests also gives us all a special opportunity to learn more about the priesthood, to recognize and honor our Holy Priests both living and deceased. We are also encouraged to pray for vocations to the priesthood. You may call the rectory to arrange for a white rose to be placed by the stained glass window of St. John Vianney which is the patron saint of parish priests, and located in the original section of St. Denis Church. Parishioners still have the opportunity to request a red rose to be placed by the tabernacle each week.

HEARTS & HANDS OUTREACH

We now have 2 wheelchairs on the St Denis campus. Thank you Fr Steve and Mr Ricotta for these donations. The wheelchairs are for parishioners to use on campus to make it easier to access our facilities. One wheelchair can be found in the church storage room in the front of the new section; the other has been placed in the parish center. Please use these items as needed and return them to the correct area when done so that others can find them. Please do not remove these wheelchairs from the St Denis campus.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

We would like to begin a comfort shawl ministry at St. Denis Church. If you have a love of knitting or crocheting, or would like to learn, we invite you to join us twice a month as we knit or crochet our prayers and blessings into shawls which will be distributed to those in our parish in need of comfort or . You do not have to be present at the meetings to participate in this ministry. After completing the prayer shawls, they will be blessed by Father Steve and be delivered to our brothers and sisters so they may feel the warmth, love, support and prayers of their parish family. If you cannot knit or crochet, but would like to donate yarn, we would truly appreciate it. Our first meeting will be on Sept. 16th in the lower basement of the church at 7pm. If you can attend or would like additional information, please call Annette at 221-8256 or Joann at 221-4252.

LAZARUS MINISTRY

The Lazarus Ministry is a group of volunteers who attend funeral masses at St. Denis when there are few mourners in attendance. Calls are put out as needed to notify everyone and those who are available participate in the mass. It is a beautiful way for us as a community of God to support the families and pray for the deceased. Susan Messina has agreed to take over this ministry. Anyone who wishes to be included or has questions can speak to Deacon Enrico at the rectory 227-8382 or call Dianne 221-2930.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

RCIA RCIA Graham Greene was one of the greatest novelists of the 20th Century. In 1925, while engaged to his future wife Vivien, a Catholic, he wrote: "It occurred to me that if I were to marry a Catholic I ought to know at the least the nature and limits of the beliefs she held. It was only fair, since she knew that I believed - "in nothing supernatural". So, motivated only by curiosity and a desire to please his future wife, he began to take instruction in the Catholic faith - with absolutely no intention of converting. As he put it, "My primary difficulty was to believe in God at all…I didn't disbelieve in Jesus Christ - I disbelieved in God." In February, 1926, his atheism overpowered and removed, Graham became a Catholic. Greene gave God a chance, he let God deal with his disbelief. Those of you who are non-Catholics; those of you who were baptized Catholics but have not received Confirmation and the Eucharist - perhaps you have doubts, fears, and disbelief. Give God a chance! Our RCIA program begins in September.
  • Are there men and women you know who are non-Christians, or non-Catholic, or non-baptized Catholics - who want to join our church and receive the Sacraments? Give us their names.
  • Are there men and women you know who are baptized in another Christian faith, like a Methodist or a Lutheran, and they want to come join our family? Give us their names.
  • Are there Catholic men and women who have not received their Communion or Confirmation? Give us their names.
  • Are you planning to be married in the Church, but have not finished your Sacraments of Initiation? Give us your names
  • Are you in any of the above categories? Please allow us to welcome you, and assist you in making the greatest decision of your life - becoming a Roman Catholic. Give us your names Please contact Sue Ellen DeForest, RCIA Coordinator, suedefor@aol.com (845) 489-2624
